The imported Holsteiner mare Meggie is a stam 18B1
mare by Cheenook.
Cheenook is known for passing on
his kind temperament and type. The Holsteiner stallion Cheenok is a
very expressive sire with outstanding basic gaits. He was trained by Hans
Peter Mohr and displayed exceptional Piaffe_Passage movements. Very good
Character and temperament.
Cheenook's dam Trika is by Romantiker who
is by Ramiro Z.
Caretino
Caretino is one of Germany's top stallions,
producing horses that excel in both the dressage and jumper rings. From the
latest (2001) WBFSH rankings of top jumping sires, he is ranked #5 and is
the youngest, at 18 years old, in the top ten. With more than 100 offspring,
known for their astonishing movement and jumping ability, in sport, Caretino
has 18 approved sons and 114 daughters, of which 12 are German State
Premium. Recently Caretino was one of four to be accredited as an approved
KWPN stallion without having been presented at the Stallion Show nor
evaluated on the constitutional requirements of the KWPN.
Caretino is by Caletto II, the most
important son of the Holsteiner breed mainstay, Cor de la Bryere. Caletto II
is said to embody the perfect traits of the Holsteins: noble and expressive,
long-bodied, correct conformation, excellent gaits and exceptional jumping
ability. Calletto II is also the sire of Calleta's dam
Virage.
As a young stallion, Caretino won his 100-day
test in the Holsteiner Verband with the brilliant scores of 9.0 and 9.5 in
jumping and 9.0 in general performance with a total jumping index of 145.
In his early competitions he won the 1998
Holstein State Show Jumping Championship that, in turn, qualified him for
the Federal German Championships in Mannheim at which he won. Shortly
afterwards he become a successful international jumper with rider Bo
Kristoffersen. Their efforts included 40 placings in national and
international competition and, as part of the Danish Nation's Cup team at
Gera in 1992, they brought home a fourth place finish.
The promising Caretino showed outstanding
potential and in early 1994 the ride was taken over by the legendary Ludger
Beerbaum. Just six months later his international career was cut short after
he sustained injury. Caretino was retired from sport but began his career as
a leading sire.
By 2001 12 of Caretino's offspring had competed
at the international level including AK Caridor Z (Jos Lansink), Crocodile
Dandy (Alison Firestone), Chandra (Sören von Rönne), Toyzrus (Jill
Henselwood) and Ballerina 124 (Marcus Merschformann). Most recently, his son
Camirez (Marcus Merschformann) won the 2001 Hamburg Derby, one of the most
demanding events in the international circuit. In dressage Caretino has
proven himself as well with the approved sons Cheenook, Carpaccio and
Cockney who are considered some of the best movers ever to have entered the
sport.
The definite breakthrough of the Caretino
offspring in international show jumping, Chandra (Sören von Rönne),
Ballerina (Markus Merschformann) and Caresino (Thieß Luther), confirms that
the Caletto II son ranks alongside the best stallions within the current
Holsteiner breeding. Caretino was represented by an excellent collection of
sons during this stallion approval [31st edition of the annual Holsteiner
stallion approval and auction in Neumünster, Germany], with no less than
four being approved for breeding. The most striking Caretino son was the
dark brown Casario II (dam's sire Leonid x Ahorn Z, lineage 6893), the best
jumper, who was bred from a sister of the stallions Concerto I and II
(Contender - Bagina x Ahorn Z (Jann)). Casario II, deservedly, finished as
championship runner-up in the approval. At the auction for approved
stallions, Casario II was bought for DM270,000 ($118,800) by the Belgian Luc
Verelst, who is the sponsor of international showjumping rider Marc van
Dijck. -
Aldato
is by the foundation sire Anblick
xx. Aldato is found in the pedigree of many top jumpers. Aldato is
considered the best Anblick son. Aldato founded one of the top modern
stallion lines in the Holsteiner breed. According to Dr. Rossow, he was an
uphill horse of classic stallion type with a marvelous, harmonious topline
and good expression. He had wonderful basic gaits with enormous drive from
the haunches. He was an important sire who reproduced himself in a great
number of the finest broodmares who in turn became the solid basis of many
future competition horses. At the same time he produced numerous sport
horses for all disciplines. Aldato's sire, Anblick was one of the best TB
stallions to stand in Germany ever. His full brother, Abendfrieden, is the
sire of the Hanoverian legend Pik As. Anblick sired 14 approved sons and the
Olympic dressage and 1960's superstars Venetia and Antoinette. The
particular strength of this family is supple healthy horses with a joy for
work.

Maternal Side
| The Holsteiner mare Virage,
dam of Meggie, is a direct daughter of Calleto II.
Caletto II was a sensation right from the start and was acclaimed
Champion of his stallion licensing in 1980. He was considered to be the
perfect Holsteiner type. He also showed wonderful jumping technique, and
later proved this in the show jumping ring with Herbert Bloeker, where the
stallion won many tests for riding horses. At a regional show in September
1984, after being proclaimed best in the show, Caletto II was waiting to go
into the arena, when he reared up, fell over and regrettably broke his neck
at nearly 7 years of age!
Just how great a loss the untimely death of Caletto II was , has been
shown by the fact that he was ranked 16th in the standings for ten
consecutive years, with his two megastar offspring, Operette La Silla and
Jewel's Classic Touch contributing the bulk of the points. Calletto II's son
Caretino jumped internationally with Bo Kristoffersen and later with Ludger
Beerbaum.
Virage's dam Nirage is by Urioso. Urioso combines the
blood of both Furioso and Ramzes, two highly influential
foundation sires from France. Furioso is the sire of the Olympic
Champion For Pleasure and Ramzes is the sire of Raimond who sired
Ramiro Z.
Nirage's dam is by
Aldato who is by Anblick.
Meggie
carries the blood of Aldato both in her dam and sire side. Aldato is
considered the best Anblick son.
The
particular strength of this family is supple healthy horses with a joy for
work.
Cottage Son is a sire whose influence on the modern day
showjumper is second to none. His great grandson Capitol alone would secure
his place in breeding history. Cottage Son is also found in both the
dam side and sire side of Meggie.
